Flat-bottom Heads

A flat-bottom head, a flanged-flat configuration and a flat plate are different descriptions. Confirm the profile and edge detail needed for the component.
Technical specification information
Specifications to confirm
The diameter must be tied to a measurement basis, with edge and thickness requirements stated separately.
- ID or OD and its units.
- Flange height and edge radius, where present.
- Nominal or formed minimum thickness.
- Tolerances and drawing revision.
General Notes
- Show the flat centre and any formed edge.
- Identify a flange, transition radius or straight edge.
- Use a section drawing to distinguish a formed head from a plate cut-out.
State the full material designation, surface requirement and intended connection detail. The suitability of a flat configuration depends on the actual design conditions; it cannot be inferred from its appearance.
- Material specification and grade.
- Required surface and edge condition.
- Inspection criteria and records.
The project drawing and responsible engineer define the vessel or system design. Confirm the scope for the actual component before ordering.
Standards
Identify the applicable design, geometry, material and inspection standards and their editions. A similar head profile does not by itself establish compliance with a standard or certification requirement.
Application
Describe the intended vessel or tank service, medium and design conditions. Confirm the suitability of the head profile, material and supply requirements with the responsible project engineer.
Preparing your SIDA enquiry
Share the drawing, quantity and the dimensions you have. If the exact profile still needs clarification, describe the required interface and the issue to be reviewed.

Is a flanged-flat head the same as a flat plate?
No. A formed edge or flange changes the component geometry. Show the section and required connection detail.
Read the main guide →Can the pressure rating be determined from the shape?
No. The actual design requirements, dimensions, material and connection conditions must be assessed together.
